We were made to feel right at home, right away. Big Red Cat owns the low-key lounge, but Ian from Aukland is control of the kitchen. Breakfast is served at 7:30 (or later), and waking up at the base of incomparable Red Mountain to the smell of fresh bacon and coffee was the best official opening to a vacation I can remember.
Red Shutter is not Club Med material, but for those looking for a casual, mellow and exceedingly friendly place to stay (did I mention it's at the base of Red Mountain?), you couldn't ask for more. It has the convenience of a motel (without the sterility) and the character of a B&B (without the weirdo owners or doilies). There's also a sauna and a hot tub with views of the mountain. Red Shutter is not a high-maintenance resort, but for four friends on a road trip ski trip of BC, Red Shutter Inn was perfect.

The Red Shutter Inn is in a prime location at the base of Red Mountain. It was the first lodge to be built here, and it has stood the test of time, with guests returning year after year for the great hot tub, comfy beds, and friendly and social atmosphere. With room for all 12 guests around the breakfast table, lots of stories are shared and friends are made, who return to ski together every season.
Each room has a queen and double bed (the queens are the same as the luxury beds offered at 4-star hotel chains). The upstairs rooms have a stair, way leading to two connected rooms, which have their own washroom and share a shower. The main floor rooms off of the lounge room have their own washrooms with showers. The decor is a rustic ski-racing theme, so if you're into modern this isn't for you - but if you're into skiing or boarding, fun and friendship, this is the place.
Groups often rent the entire lodge for $700/night (less than $60/person with a group of 12 - including breakfast!)
Regular rates are $75/person/night and 7th night free
Cat skier's special: when packaged with Big Red Cats, it is just $65/night and 7th night free
Great summer deals - $69 the first night and $59 each extra night (breakfast and hot tub not included in summer)

The A-Frame cabin is a cozy little cabin with 2 rooms upstairs (2 comfortable single XL's in each room - can be pushed together for couples). There is also a sofabed in the main room. With its own kitchen, you can prepare your own meals to keep costs down. There is one 3-piece bathroom.
Located right next to the hot tub, the cabin has a large LCD TV, woodstove (as well as electric heat), and cappuccino machine. While it isn't luxury lodging, it does have a certain character to it once you get the woodstove burning, like you're the only people hiding out in your own winter wonderland.
Winter: $200/night and 7th night free
Summer $100/night, 2-night minumum, $500/week, $650/month

Most of the guests at the Red Shutter Inn also go cat skiing with Big Red Cats. The guide's room is downstairs, and the office is right next door, so it's super convenient. Any sort of package can be done - some like to cat ski every day, others prefer to cat ski every other day and include days at the resort, while others mainly choose the resort, and pick up cat skiing if standby seats are available.
If you book a cat skiing package and you have an uneven group size, like 3 or 5, we won't charge a single surcharge for the room with one person.
Check out Big Red Cats' rates:
